Mangalore, Nov 6, 2013: Ullal police  have busted a racket of  blackmailing  businessmen after  kidnapping them, placing them under home arrest and clicking their obscene photographs in the company of women. Three persons belonging to the racket have been arrested and produced before the court.

Those arrested are Ilyas of Ullal, Manda Asif of Mukkacheri and Shaukat of Boliyar. Police are also interrogating Mubarak, Jalal, Imran, Ataf, Nawaz  and two young women   who had reportedly abetted the accused,


 According to reports, the gang had kidnapped  Tahir (30) of KC Road Badrianagar, son of a bakery owner of Ullal on October 30 and had placed him under house arrest in the residence of Shaukat near Melkar. Then a woman was sent to his room   where he was assaulted and   several  photographs of his in compromising position with the woman was taken and even videographed. They then had reportedly  placed forth a demand for Rs 27 lakhs from the businessman lest they would make the photographs public. Fearing  disrepute, Tahir had assured to pay them Rs 5 lakhs at Ullal on October 31. 


The accused then decided to  let Tahir free and were on way to Ullal in a car. When the car was caught in a traffic blockade at Tokkottu,  Tahir cleverly jumped out of the car and escaped. He rushed to a relative’s shop at Tokkottu junction  and informed the matter.  The Ullal police were soon informed  and the accused arrested.

 In yet another similar  case reported on October 30,  Farooq  who was running a juice stall at Mastikatte Ullal was cheated when he was informed  by one of the blackmail team that a couple from Mangalore would like to  take his house at Akkarekere on rent. Accordingly, when Farooq  had taken a man and a woman said to be couple, to show his house, he too was cheated in a similar fashion  and was asked to cough up Rs 10 lakhs. Then Farooq had managed to escape from the first floor of the house after passing on a cash of Rs 5000 to the cheats. A complaint has been lodged even in this connection.

Ullal police are investigating the case.
