Roshan Ferrao had been selected for the award in 2010, but the award was withheld from him because of certain technical issues, which have now been cleared by the ministry.

Cricket player Vinay Kumar, power lifter Neha H. Kumbra, Rakesh Manpat, roller skater Parteek Raj, and swimmer Gagan Ullal will also receive the Ekalavya Award.

The sports minister also said that award winners are selected on the basis of several criteria, including their performance and achievements at the state, national, and international levels. Stating that marks were allotted to each candidate based on their participation at the state, national, and international levels, he said that awards will be conferred on those who got the highest marks. The ministry received 93 applications of the Ekalavya Award and 40 applications for the Lifetime Achievement Award, he added.

Ekalavya Award winners will receive Rs. 2 lakh each, and the Lifetime Achievement Award winners will receive Rs. 1.5 lakh each, he said.

He also said that the ministry has directed sports persons to write to the state government that all the certificates they had submitted with their applications were genuine, warning that criminal action will be taken against those who are found to have submitted fake certificates.

Addressing the gathering after announcing the list of Ekalavya Award winners, the minister said that the awards will be conferred in the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha on August 29 at 6:00 p.m.

The award winners are required to wear a uniform provided by the ministry. While the male award winners have to wear coats, shirts, pants, and ties, the female award winners have to wear zari saaris.
