Mangalore, April 24, 2014: Three Deacons of Karnataka-Goa Province of Discalced Carmelites were ordained to Priesthood at a ceremony held at Infant Jesus Shrine at Bikarnakatte in the city.
The ordainment ceremony was held in the presence of 72 priests. Dr Henry D’Souza, Bishop of Bellary was the ordaining minister.
The three deacons who were ordained to priesthood on the occasion were Fr John Pinto from Arva Parish, Fr Richard Francis Saldanha from Pakshikere and Fr Robert Rayan Pais from Madanthyar.
Of the three, Fr Richard Saldanha and Fr Robert Pais were students of St Joseph’s Inter-Diocesan Seminary, Jeppu for the last four years.
In his Homily, the Bishop enumerated the various dimensions of priesthood. The ordination rite was animated by Fr Deepak Tauro, OCD, the formator of the theology students, which included the laying of hands, prostration during the singing of the litany and the anointing of the hands with ‘chrism oil’. The respective parish priests adorned the newly ordained in priestly vestments.
A felicitation ceremony followed the Mass. Fr Archibald Gonsalves, Provincial Superior of the Karnataka-Goa province spoke on the occasion. Fr Archibald is celebrating the silver jubilee of his priestly ordination this year.
