2 men arrested for smuggling saffron and memory cards

Mangalore, Nov 4, 2012: The directorate of revenue intelligence seized 25kgs of saffron and 3,700 memory cards, which were being smuggled into India by two passengers coming from Dubai. They also arrested the duo.

The arrested Mohammed Ali (40) and Ahmed  Nizar (33), who hail from Kasargod, left Dubai by AI Express on the night of Friday and landed in Mangalore on the morning of Saturday.

They managed to pass through the customs without paying any duty; however, someone got suspicious and their baggage was later inspected. Their bags contained 25kgs of Iranian saffron packed in sachets of 25gm each. The memory cards were packed in carbon paper sheets.

The duo had travelled to Dubai two times, and officers suspect that they must have smuggled similar items earlier too. The two are now being interrogated.
