Mangalore, Sep 13, 2013: As many as eight cows and two calves died when a pick-up vehicle which was unauthorisedly transporting cattle overturned at Natekal on September 13, Friday morning. There were as many as 18 cattle in the vehicle which was heading towards Natekal from Mudipu.

It is learnt, the mishap occurred at around 2 am when the driver lost control over the vehicle which eventually fell into a gorge. The driver however fled the place. It was the driver of a milk van which passed that way who noticed the mishap and tried to rescue the cattle.
There is information that the cattle were stolen from Boliyaru, Mudipu, Sajipa and other places and were being taken to a butchery at Chembugudde.
