Mangalore, Sep 12, 2013: Minister for sports and fisheries, Abhay Chandra Jain said that under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme, Dakshina Kannada district stands first in utilizing the state fund.
Speaking at the press meet held at DK district Government Higher Primary School on Sep 12, Thursday, he said that Mangalore north block has utilized 100 per cent funds under the SSA programme. All the proposed major works, apart from some minor compound wall works have been completed under the programme.



He also said that DK has seven blocks and Mangalore North Block alone has 317 schools. Previous year government had released Rs 52 crores infrastructure development and other works in the district, while this year it has received Rs 26 crore. Around 90 percent of the works planned for the previous year have been completed.
Speaking on ’Kalikotsava’ in schools, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan project officer K. Pithambara said that government is set to introduce a curriculum-based programme for government school children to provide an opportunity to exhibit their skills through various innovative learning techniques and not be a cultural event. It will be introduced in school, cluster and block levels.
The purpose of the programme is to improve quality of education and enhance their learning skills. The government has also granted the amount of Rs 50,000 to each block to conduct the event.
The students who are selected in the school-level can take part in the cluster-level competition and the winners can participate in the block-level competition. Competitions will be held in 18 categories in three levels from class 6 - 8 and 12 competitions from class 1 – 5, he added.
