Chennai, May 03, 2021: A woman in Tamil Nadu cut off her tongue and offered it to a temple deity in order to keep her promise after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the state assembly elections.
Thirty-two-year-old Vanitha had apparently taken a vow earlier to cut her tongue as a sacrifice to God to assure DMK’s win in the 2021 assembly election.
After DMK won the mandate, Vanithaa reached Muthalamman temple in the morning, cut off her tongue and tried to offer it to the temple deity.
But due to Covid-related restrictions in places of worship, Vanitha left the chopped-off tongue at the temple gates and collapsed. She was rushed to the hospital.
After a decade in opposition, the DMK won a convincing victory over arch-rival AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, and the ruling party emerged as a powerful opposition, overcoming the burden of ten years of anti-incumbency to a certain extent.
