Threats Growing Due to Active Borders, Says Army Chief

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Jan 13, 2015:  Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag today said threats and challenges to India are growing because of active borders.

Army_Chief"Pakistan is supporting proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir despite suffering casualties," General Suhag told reporters on Army Day.

"The terror infrastructure in Pakistan is still intact," he added.

Last year, the Army chief said, "110 terrorists were neutralized by forces" in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir show Pakistan’s desperation," he added.

On multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in the past few months, the Army chief said, "Terrorists are finding it difficult to infiltrate from Line of Control, hence they are trying to enter India from international border."

More than a dozen people were killed and thousands of villagers were forced to leave their homes near the border in ceasefire violations by Pakistan last year.

General Suhag admitted that there was a need to modernize the army.

"We face many challenges, there is need to modernize the army... Concerted efforts are being made to fill up gaps in weapons and ammunition," he said.
