Shivamogga, Aug 15, 2022: The Karnataka police on Tuesday arrested four men in connection with the stabbing that took place in the Shivamogga district on Monday. So far, the police have revealed the identities of three of the four men arrested as Nadeem (25), Abdul Rehman (25) and Jabiullah.

Jabiullah was shot in the leg while he tried to escape from the police.

The arrest comes a day after a man, Prem Singh, was stabbed in the Gandhi Bazar area of Shivamogga, hours after a row erupted over a poster of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar put up at Ameer Ahmed circle on Independence Day. Two groups clashed over installing a flex of Savarkar and 18th century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan on Monday.

A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the four arrested men.

Following the incident, Shivamogga District Collector R Selvamani ordered schools and colleges to be closed in the city and Bhadravathi town limits on Tuesday. He said the prohibitory orders at these two places will be on till August 18. The situation is under control, he stated.
