More mudslinging between leaders of BJP, Congress

Mangalore Today News Network

Bangaluru, Nov 08, 2014:  Even as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe is on into the mysterious death of a 14-year-old girl at Tirthahalli in Shivamogga district, mudslinging has intensified between Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders over the issue.

A day after Home Minister K.J. George sparked off a controversy by hitting out at the media for tarnishing Bengaluru’s image by highlighting rape incidents, apparently for increasing TRPs (television rating point), the former State BJP president K.S. Eshwarappa stooped to a new low here on Friday by making personal attacks against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Mr. George.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Eshwarappa, MLC, lambasted the State government on the recent increase in rape cases in the State. He said: “They [Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. George] have not arrested the accused yet. They are protecting the accused. This is totally an irresponsible government.” However, he later tried to clarify his comments saying: “The Chief Minister and the Home Minister should give priority to women’s safety.”

Reacting to this, Mr. Siddaramaiah termed Mr. Eshwarappa’s comments uncivil and insensitive. As Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Mr. Eshwarappa had belittled the prestige of the Chair, he said.

Irked by his statements against Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. George, youth Congress workers staged a protest outside Mr. Eshwarappa’s residence. Meanwhile, rattled by BJP’s allegations against him, Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar took an oath in the Marikamba temple in Tirthahalli on Thursday, swearing his innocence in the issue. He dared former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Shobha Karandlaje, MP, to testify before Lord Manjunatha in Dharmasthala that they were speaking the truth.
