The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also predicted heavy rainfall, exceeding 7 cm, at isolated places till Saturday.

Between March 1 and May 31, Kerala received 464.77 mm of rainfall, 22 per cent more than what is classified as normal.  Seven districts recorded excess rainfall during the period. The southwest monsoon missed its original date of onset, on May 30, and according to the IMD, it is likely to hit Kerala around Friday.

“Rainfall activity over Kerala has increased. Wind flow over the southeast Arabian Sea is also becoming favourable,” IMD director K Santhosh said.

In Kodagu district, Madikeri, Bhagamandala, Karike, Moornadu, Napoklu, Virajpet and Gonikoppal received good rain.
