Man brutally killed with stone in Haveri village; neighbour surrenders before police

Haveri, May 12, 2026: A 40-year-old man was brutally murdered following a quarrel over a trivial issue at Kabboor village in Haveri district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ningappa Channabasappa Karigar. Police said the accused, Shivu Ningappa Pattedar, allegedly attacked Ningappa with a stone while under the influence of alcohol, leading to his death on the spot.

According to sources, the accused and the victim were neighbours and had a long-standing rivalry, allegedly fuelled by frequent drunken altercations. About a month ago, a fight had reportedly broken out between the two, during which Shivu had assaulted Ningappa on the head. Though village elders intervened and brokered a compromise, tensions between them reportedly continued.

On Tuesday morning, the accused allegedly attacked Ningappa again with a stone, inflicting severe head injuries. Ningappa died on the spot due to heavy bleeding.

Following the incident, Shivu reportedly surrendered before the police and confessed to the crime.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Haveri Rural Police Station. Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
