Karnataka BJP’s X handle booked over scam lord post targeting CM Siddaramaiah, Dy CM Shivakumar

Bengaluru, January 30, 2026: A case has been registered against the Karnataka BJP’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle for allegedly posting defamatory content targeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and other Ministers, describing them as “scam lords” and accusing them of “looting” the State.

The complaint was lodged at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Bengaluru by a team of lawyers representing the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

The post, titled “Scam Lord”, featured images of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and other Ministers with the caption, “This is not the story of scams but of those behind them.” It further alleged, “This is the real story of the scam empire of the @INCKarnataka government that has been looting Karnataka day and night!!”

In the complaint, the Congress alleged that the BJP was deliberately attempting to mislead and provoke the public by repeatedly using terms such as “loot” and “scam”. It claimed that the post went beyond political criticism and amounted to a systematic attempt to malign the reputation of individuals holding constitutional positions.

The complainants sought strict action against such social media posts, stating that they could disturb public peace and harmony.

The case comes amid an escalating war of words between the BJP and the Congress in Karnataka over governance and corruption allegations. Earlier, BJP leaders, including Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar, had accused the Congress government of misgovernance, selective law enforcement and rampant corruption, claiming that even ruling party MLAs were dissatisfied and were seeking funds from the Chief Minister.

In recent months, the BJP has also shared AI-generated videos on social media targeting the Congress over the reported leadership tussle between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.
