Jammu and Kashmir: 2 terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

New Delhi, Jan 15, 2015: Two terrorists were killed by security forces in Shopian’s Kharot village of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

The Army has reportedly been engaged in a gunfight with three terrorists in Shopian.

Police said security forces surrounded a group of heavily armed terrorists in Keller forest area of the district on Thursday morning.

"The militants fired at the security forces, triggering an encounter that is still going on. Two militants have been killed so far" a senior police officer said.

In another gunbattle a top Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) terrorist was killed by the security forces in Sopore town of Baramulla district on Wednesday.

An encounter broke out between security forces and the LeT terrorist, holed up in a house Chanakhan area of Sopore, following a cordon and search operation, the police said.

The lone militant was killed after exchanging fire with security forces for nearly six hours, the police said.
