Delhi High Court seeks action on bogus voters

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, January 1, 2015: As the Capital gears up for elections sometime next year, the presence of bogus voters has come under the scanner of the Delhi High Court. Taking stern action, the court on Wednesday issued notices to the Election Commission and Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer over this issue and sought a response by January 5.

delhi-hcA bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva has sought an explanation over the allegation that there are many residents who have numerous voter cards in their name but with different addresses.

Mail Today on November 28 had reported the presence of nearly 15,000 bogus voters in Patparganj assembly constituency.

The court was hearing a plea seeking direction to delete the names of bogus voters in different constituencies including Mundka in outer Delhi, which allegedly has over 37,000 forged card holders.

The petition was filed by one Naresh Kumar, who had unsuccessfully contested on a Congress ticket from Mundka in the 2013 Delhi Assembly polls. He alleged that in almost every constituency there are serious irregularities and a large number of fake and bogus names have been included intentionally and deliberately in the electoral roll.
