The fresh arrest was made regarding an FIR (No. 98/2020) filed by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) pertaining to the violence at Red Fort, during which parts of the heritage structure were damaged.

Earlier, a local court in Delhi granted bail to Deep Sidhu, who was arrested on February 9 in connection with the Red Fort violence on Republic Day during the farmers’ tractor march against the central government’s new farm laws.

Special Judge Neelofer Abida Perveen granted relief to Deep Sidhu on a personal bond of Rs 30,000 and two sureties of a like amount.

The court noted that Deep Sidhu was in custody since February 9, with 14 days of remand in police custody. It said that a police plea for further incarceration for the sole purpose of voice sampling was not justifiable.

However, while granting the bail, the court directed Deep Sidhu to deposit his passport with the investigating officer and appear before the police station as well as the court as and when required.
