Cancer survivor Megha Patil wins Rs.1 crore on KBC

Mumbai, Oct 16, 2014: A cancer survivor-cum-quiz junkie-cum-homemaker has become the latest contestant to win a crore on TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 8.

 

Megha Patil, who hails from Vasai in Mumbai, walked away with Rs.1 crore after answering all 14 questions correctly in an episode that was shot on Tuesday and that will be aired soon. Strong-willed Megha got treated successfully for breast cancer in 2008 only to get inflicted with liver cancer.

On Tuesday, however, her medical condition was hardly a deterrent as she deftly answered questions, saving her game show Life Lines for the very end. Her positive approach and conviction while tackling the questions left anchor Amitabh Bachchan impressed.

"Repayment of hefty medical bills was one of the biggest motivating factors to participate in this show," said Megha who hopes to repay the loan that her husband, a government employee, took for her treatment. A part of the prize money will be used for further treatment and "whatever amount remains, we plan to use for our children’s education", said Megha who was encouraged by her IITian son to participate in the show.

"Ever since my selection, my son has been ordering books online to arm me with answers for grilling questions," she said. "I have been following the show for long. I realised the basic question pattern is focused on current affairs," said Megha who was confident of winning from the very beginning.

The idea of being a crorepati is yet to sink in but Megha, who comes from a middle class family, has started enjoying her stardom for now. "Life is short. I, at least, managed to make the most of it by getting on the hot seat."
