Amazon employee, 23, hangs herself at home

Bengaluru: June 13, 2015: A 23- year-old woman employee of e-commerce major Amazon allegedly hanged herself at her home in Goruguntepalya near Yeshwantpur, northwest Bengaluru.

Deepika Vinod ’s putrefying, maggot-infested body was found in the ninth-floor flat in O Block of Platinum City, off Tumkur Road, on Thursday afternoon. She’s suspected to have killed herself four days earlier. Police didn’t deny or confirm if a suicide note was found.

Deepika was from Coimbatore. Her parents were in Bengaluru last week and she is believed to have sent them home via a Coimbatore-bound tr ain, which they boarded on Sunday, police said. Foul sme ll emanating from the house aroused the suspicion of neighbours, who alerted security personnel.

Meanwhile, Deepika’s colleagues alerted her parents. They rushed to the city and called police, who broke open the door to find Deepika hanging from the ceiling fan.

Deepika married Vinod, 26, also from Coimbatore, nearly six months ago but the couple grew apart. "They were living in a rented house in Ulsoor earlier. Following the martial discord, her parents bought them the Yeshwantpur flat. A week ago, Vinod stopped coming home, leaving Deepika heartbroken," police said. Vinod had lied to Deepika that he was a software engineer but was actually a BPO employee who later lost his job, police added.
