Bangalore, Nov. 30, 2013 (DHNS): Jyothi Uday, a Corporation Bank employee who was brutally attacked by an assailant with a machete at an ATM kiosk near Corporation Circle last week, is on the road to recovery.

Doctors said she was showing steady improvement and hoped they would be able to decide on discharging her from the hospital in a week’s time. She was shifted to a special ward at BGS Global Hospitals on Thursday evening.

Addressing mediapersons here on Friday, Jyothi said, “I thank all of you for coming here. I am waiting to go home.”

Still under trauma, she did not wish to talk about the horrific incident and kept her interaction brief.

Doctors said it was not advisable for her to get emotional at the moment. “She needs emotional support right now,” said Dr N K Venkataramana, chief neurosurgeon and vice chairman, BGS Global Hospitals. He said she was recovering from paralysis and sensation in her right hand and leg had returned.

Dr Venkataramana said they had estimated anywhere between three months and six months for her complete recovery. “But she is showing signs of recovery. We hope she will be able to recover within three months. She is fitting into the plan of recovery and we are hoping she will soon get back to work as well.” Jyothi is now undergoing physiotherapy and rehabilitation which would be intensified shortly, he said. “We cannot predict the exact time should would recover. It depends on her effort as well.”

Her husband Uday Kumar told reporters that Jyothi’s health condition had improved a lot. She has undergone two surgeries. “She is waiting to get home,” he said. On medical bills and compensation, he said, “We have not sought any compensation. Corporation Bank has been very helpful to us.”
