Actress Veena Mailk, who has found herself yet again embroiled in a controversy, has filed an appeal along with husband Asad Bashir Khan against the 26 years imprisonment sentenced by a Pakistani court for alleged profanity.

The couple has strongly condemned the court’s decision calling it "harsh" and is happy that they are getting support from worldwide. According to a leading website, Veena said, "We are very happy to see our voice has been heard in all corners of the world. All the leading publications from the world over have covered the issue strongly."

The actress-turned-homemaker is also getting help from Amnesty International and Human Rights and is quite hopeful that the couple will get justice in their country.

Though, Veena is hopeful of getting justice, but she is indeed disturbed by the fact that her credentials as a true Muslim has been questioned. She added, "As a Muslim I strongly believe in the institution of Islam and me and my husband as Muslim hold the Holy Prophet PBUH and His respectable family and the Sahabae Karam at the highest esteem and regard. Therefore it’s beyond our wildest imagination to be the part of anything that directly or indirectly disrespects the Institution"

However, Veena is ready to bear the brunt if she has done anything wrong. "We believe that every religion should be respected and whoever disrespects it should be punished," she added.

At the same time she is not game to take things lying down. "The host of the programme that triggered off the attack on me and my husband, has already served an apology for her actions and it was accepted by many Ulma Karam. Being a woman I will not only stand up for myself but also for my family too, as I am now a mother of a two- month-old baby. No force can separate me from my child. I would request each and every person who believes in basic human rights to stand up and be my voice against this unfair verdict."
