‘Jana Nayagan’ leak sparks outrage; Vijay, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan slam piracy

Mangalore Today News Network

Chennai, Apr 11, 2026: After parts of Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before his political career, Jana Nayagan, were leaked online, the incident sparked widespread backlash, with several celebrities voicing their anger and slamming online piracy. Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan also took to social media to express their concerns. Kamal Haasan even said that this was a result of systemic failure.

Rajinikanth wrote, as translated on X, “The release of the Jananayakan film on the internet by someone has caused shock and pain. Film associations must raise their voice against this, and the government must identify those responsible and impose severe punishment. Such crimes must not be allowed to continue in the future."

Kamal Haasan wrote, “The leak of #Jananayagan is not an accident – it is the result of systemic failure. Had due process been timely, we would not be here. Inordinate delays in certification created fertile ground for piracy. When legal access is stalled, illegitimate channels take over. Piracy is beyond politics; it is an attack on the art and artist itself."

The actor added, “It endangers the work of hundreds of artists and technicians, and the investments of honest tax-paying producers, exhibitors and theatre owners, all who sustain the cinema we love. Who protects the creator when the system fails? We need accountability, swift certification, strict enforcement, and real-time takedowns. I trust true lovers of cinema will unite and give a befitting response by watching the film legally in theatres, as you stood with me in the past."

Meanwhile, the producers of Jana Nayagan have initiated legal action against the source of the leak, with further proceedings underway. The legal team representing the film’s production house, KVN Productions LLP, has issued a public notice warning against the circulation of any leaked content, including clips, images, or full versions of the film.  The team has expressed “shock and urgency" over the breach, and warned of action if leaked scenes are downloaded, shared or reposted on any digital medium.
