Bus driver watching mobile phone while driving; video goes viral; cops assure action

Mangaluru, July 24, 2023: An incident of a city bus driver who was engrossed in seeing his mobile phone while driving, has been captured by a passenger of the bus and the video has gone viral on social media. The particular bus was operating on the State Bank-Talapady route.

 

The video has aroused widespread anguish and public are demanding action against the driver for his lackadaisical approach that would have put the lives of passengers at risk.

The route number 42 bus named St Antony was heading towards Talapady. It is said the bus driver was engrossed in his mobile phone right from Netravathi bridge upto Thokkottu. While his one hand was on the steering another was holding the mobile phone.

The RTO must cancel the permit of the bus and take action against the driver, citizens have demanded.

Reacting to the viral video, Mangaluru South Traffic Police Inspector Ramesh Hanapura said a case would be registered against the driver under the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. He said a suo moto case would be registered in this regard.
