Suresh had a strange obsession with ghosts, to be precise ghost stories. He immensely enjoyed reading ghost stories . Be it any ghost film, he never missed it and it was his passion to browse the net to read ghost stories. He would sit all through the day before the computer to read articles on ghosts and other super natural phenomena. It was one such day that he was browsing the net as usual on ghosts and was exhausted reading the ghost related materials. This one was a real horrific ghost story, he thought to himself and shut down his computer. He felt tired and soon fell asleep.
Suresh’s sleep was full of dreams of ghosts pervading him from all sides. The ghosts in fact disrupted his sleep and soon he was wide awake. He shrugged his head. This was the first time, the very first time that he saw ghosts in his dreams. He did not know why it was happening. It was four in the evening; he went downstairs. His mother was busy preparing tea in the kitchen. Suresh felt as if he was pervaded by some spirit, the spirit of the ghosts about which he often read. His head was feeling heavy, as was his chest. He felt restless but thought he was a bit better after having tea. He then again moved upstairs, saying he had to do his revision as his final year exams were nearing. But he could not concentrate on his studies. He told mother that he would not have dinner and went to bed. But sleep eluded him. He switched off the light. Soon he heard a creak like sound in the room as if someone had sat on one of the chairs. He was sure that he had locked the door. He switched on the light not to see anyone. He tried to sleep and was again awake to hear the same sound. This time he jumped out o bed, switched on the light. He didn’t hear the sound when the light was on. He decided to sleep with the lights on. But again sleep eluded him. He sat up to read some notes. Again he heard a creak near his bed as if someone just got out of the bed. For the very first time Suresh felt a chilling feeling. Was it a ghost or an evil spirit? He closed his eyes. He couldn’t concentrate on the book before him.He opened the door and went out. Everyone was fast asleep.
He came back to his room. He didn’t know with whom he could explain his problem. Everyone would laugh at him thinking. As he sat on the bed, he again felt as if the bed was shaking. This time Suresh was really worried. He began to sweat profusely in the chill of the night. Suddenly, as if some idea dawned on him, he knelt down and looked under the cot. There was the culprit, his nephew, 12 year old Ankit. He was hiding under the cot and doing all the tricks just to tease Suresh. Suresh Dragged him out and squeezed his ears “You naughty” he said.“Uncle, I caught you, you are finally afraid of ghosts,” Ankit said. “Shhh! Let it be a secret,” Suresh pleaded.
