Dubai, Mar 11, 2024: The UAE’s Moon-sighting Committee announced that on Monday, the 11th of March 2024,  will be the first day of Ramadan in the UAE.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is regarded as the holiest month of the year as it was the month in which the Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) on the night of Laylat Al Qadr, one of the last ten nights of Ramadan.

Ramadan

Ramadan is the month of piety, charity and blessings. During Ramadan, capable Muslims are required to abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk. Such fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam.
Working hours for employees

The UAE has already announced reduced working hours for public and private sector workers in the country during the holy month.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) issued a circular specifying the official working hours for federal government employees during Ramadan. Working hours will be from 9am to 2.30pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and from 9am to 12pm on Fridays. Meanwhile, for the private sector, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced a reduction of two working hours per day for all employees in the private sector in the UAE during Ramadan.
