Dubai, February 9, 2026: Thumbay Group on Monday announced the launch of Thumbay Medicity Dubai, a large-scale academic healthcare destination in Al Qusais that integrates education, patient care, research and innovation within a single medical city.

Envisioned as a “city within a city,” Thumbay Medicity Dubai is designed to accommodate up to 3,000 students, generate 1,000 employment opportunities, and support a floating population of around 6,000. The project brings together medical education, tertiary healthcare, research facilities, alternative medicine, laboratories, home care services and allied healthcare support systems.

The campus houses a branch of Gulf Medical University (GMU), Thumbay University Hospital Dubai, advanced research and innovation centres, simulation and skills labs, as well as supporting infrastructure such as pharmacies, laboratories, wellness facilities and hospitality services.

With its launch, the Group aims to position Dubai as a global hub for integrated academic healthcare, where students learn in real clinical environments and patients benefit from care closely linked to education and research.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group, said the project represents a significant milestone in the Group’s long-term vision.
“Thumbay Medicity Dubai is more than an expansion. It reflects our belief that education, healthcare and research must grow together. Aligned with Dubai’s vision, this integrated academic medical city is built to shape future professionals, enhance patient care and drive innovation,” he said.

The education zone will host GMU’s Dubai campus, including the Thumbay College of Management of AI in Healthcare, advanced simulation laboratories, surgical skills centres, international foundation programmes and AI-driven learning environments.

Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, said the new campus offers students global exposure in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.
“This second fully equipped academic location reinforces our commitment to contemporary education and the development of future healthcare leaders,” he noted.

The healthcare zone will be anchored by Thumbay University Hospital Dubai, which will be launched in phases. Phase One will include renal dialysis, cardiology, orthopaedics and rehabilitation services, with plans to expand into a comprehensive multi-specialty academic hospital.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President – Healthcare Division, Thumbay Group, said the project strengthens the Group’s healthcare presence in the UAE.
“With hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies and medical tourism programmes integrated into one destination, our focus remains on accessible and compassionate care supported by academic excellence,” he said.

Strategically located on the Dubai–Sharjah border in Al Qusais, Thumbay Medicity Dubai offers access to major residential clusters and international travel connectivity. With this development, Thumbay Group further consolidates its position as one of the region’s most comprehensive academic healthcare networks.
