Mangalore, Dec 20, 2013: Police have arrested a youth hailing from Kateel on the charges of raping a minor girl after promising a mobile phone and new clothes to her. The arrest was made on December 20, Friday almost four days after the incident.
It is learnt, the youth identified as Yatish Poojari (25) from Malligeyangadi near Kateel had raped the minor girl repeatedly for two days after placing her in a deserted house in his village. He is working as a driver for Suzlon company in Padubidri.
Sources said Yatish came into contact with the girl, a ninth standard student when he visited his relatives at Kavoor. The girl stayed next door in a rented house near Mahalingeshwara Temple at Kavoor.
Yatish had slowly befriended the girl after collecting her mobile number and used to call and text her frequently. It is learnt, recently he asked her to come to Suratkal with a promise to buy a mobile phone and clothes.
The girl believed him and went to Suratkal by a bus. Yatish who was waiting for her took her in his car to Tannirbavi and later to a house at Malligeyangady where he reportedly raped her for two days.
In the meantime, the girl’s family had lodged a missing complaint and a terrified Yatish dropped the girl in Mangalore on December 16 evening after threatening her of dire consequences if she divulged the matter before anyone.
However, the girl revealed the incident to her parents and a medical test confirmed rape. Police were able to track down Yatish after questioning his friends Vasu and Anil.
