Use of Nehru Maidan for public functions will soon be restricted, assures DC

Mangalore, Jan 12, 2014: Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim has said that the district administration needed the active support and co-operation of the people to develop the city of Mangalore.

Participating in an interactive meet organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the KCCI Meeting Hall on January 11, Saturday, the Deputy Commissioner also pointed out that the roads of the city though concretised are devoid of footpaths.

All out efforts would be made to solve all problems, the DC said and regretted the fact that several problems persisted for long in the city.

He  also delved upon the proposed high speed rail link between Konaje and Manipal and said the project  when completed would benefit thousands of students.

On the use of Nehru Maidan for various other purposes,  the DC said steps would  be taken to restrict the same. A committee has also been set up to ensure that vacancies in various departments are filled, the DC informed.

Referring to the proposed  Netravathi diversion project, the DC said the people must join hands and stage a protest to pressurise the government to drop the project.

Mohammad Ameen, KCCI President, submitted a memorandum to the DC enlisting various demands. Nigam B Vasani, KCCI Vice President, Latha R Kini, T Subbaiah Shetty, Muralidhar Ramani, former presidents were also present.
