Ullal Qazi passes away

Mangalore, Feb 1, 2014: Qazi of Ullal and renowned Sunni religious scholar Assayyed Abdurrehman Al-Bukhari passed away at his residence at Payyanur in Kerala on February 1, Saturday. He was 94 and was ailing since some time.

Popularly known as Ullal Tangal, he was also the President of Samastha Kerala Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama (Kanthapuram),an organisation of Sunni scholars and religious heads in Kerala.

Born in the year 1920 in Kerala, he had also served as President of Jamia Sa-adiya Arabic College, All-Kerala Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulema and advisor of Markaz Saqafathssunniya and All India Sunni Jam-iyyathul Ulema. He had also served as Principal of Sayyed Madani Arabic College Ullal and was appointed Qazi of Ullal in November 1978. The religious scholar had even served as Qazi in various places of Kerala and Karnataka. He won the title ‘Tajul Ulema’ in 2000 in recognition of his 50 years of service in Ullal.
