Ullal: Minister Khadar, DC Ibrahim visit to ‘SEE’ Sea Erosion

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 10, 2014: With the monsoon gradually beginning to make its presence felt in the district, the problem of sea erosion is once again poised to play havoc along the coastline.

In order to assess the situation and instill confidence in the people, Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim and State Health Minister UT Khader, who also represents the constituency, visited the area on Tuesday.

Already a resort and several houses have been damaged and about 15 houses in Kaiko and 25 houses in Uchila are said to be endangered due to sea erosion.

Sea erosion has been a perennial problem in Ullal, Someshwar and few other places as strong winds and giant waves lash the coastline mercilessly. Despite repeated efforts by the successive governments to ‘solve’ this problem, no lasting response has been found to match Nature’s fury and several crores of rupees have been literally sunk into the sea in the course of these vain efforts.
