Minor raped for months, impregnated in Karnataka’s Hubballi, 19 year old boy arrested

Hubballi, May 4, 2024: A 19-year-old man was arrested on charges of raping a minor girl for months and impregnating her in Karnataka’s Hubballi. According to the police, the accused allegedly raped the 17-year-old girl several times between January 1, this year, until May 3.

He had known the survivor through school, and allegedly castigated, abused and threatened her, the police said.

Commenting on the incident, Renuka Sukumar, Police Commissioner Hubballi-Dharwad, said the incident came to light on May 3.

"At nearly 5 pm, we received information about a Medico-Legal Case, involving a minor girl who was pregnant," she said.

(A Medico-Legal Case is a case of injury or ailment in which investigations by the law-enforcing agencies are essential to fix the responsibility regarding the causation of the injury or ailment.)

"Acting on the complaint, we registered a case and arrested the accused and are ensuring all further police action is taken," the police commissioner said.

Police also said a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) case had been registered since the survivor was a minor.

The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act had also been invoked since the girl belonged to the Scheduled Tribe (ST).

Meanwhile, pro-Hindu activists and BJP workers staged a protest in front of the local police station, demanding justice for the survivor and raising slogans against the Revanth Reddy-led state government.
