Udupi, June 27, 2014: Speaking after inaugurating the international day against drug abuse celebrations organised jointly by the Information Department and Karnataka State Temperance Board here on June 26, Deputy Commissioner Muddu Mohan called upon the youth to inculcate the true Indian values that upholds the sacrificial and ethical path, rather than embracing the western culture, which lacks the unique Indian features.

The DC said the students should develop self-discipline in life. It is not the responsibility of the administrative and legal mechanism as a whole to eradicate the evil system. The society should join hands with the authorities in creating and inculcating a civilised and respectable lifestyle. Drug addiction is the dark facet of the western culture. He added youth are the crusaders, who shape the future of the nation. They should take up a drive against the drug and other narcotic addiction. He said that the district administration has taken stringent measures against drug peddlers.

Udupi DySP Parbhudev Mane said that the district police have held drive to check drug abuse in Manipal. Youth in the age group of 16 to 25 are prone to drug addiction. The addiction in the long run will affect the personality of an individual. The police have also cracked the whip on drunk driving cases.  Raghavendra Hemmanna, Industrialist, M/s Gajanana Group of Industries, Siddapura, inaugurates the 609th branch of Karnataka Bank,  Bank director Dr H Rama Mohan, MD and CEO P Jayaram Bhat, AGM-Mangalore Region H P R Hande, Chief Manager Shobha Rao and others were present.
