Udupi: DC directs officials to gear up to tackle monsoon eventualities

Udupi, May 27, 2014:  Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr Muddumohan  has instructed all officials to gear themselves up and be prepared for monsoon related eventualities in the district.

Addressing a meeting of district level officials at his office on May 26, Monday, he said good co-ordination and communication play a vital role in any disaster management and made it a point to officials to ensure that there is no communication gap.

He also directed officials to publicise the names of helpline numbers in front of the DC office and Taluk Office so that public can call the numbers in case of any distress during monsoons.

He said the control room at the Taluk office and DC office will have to remain open round the clock.

The DC further warned of stringent action against those officials who fail in discharging their duties. He said the CMC has already been directed to clear drains to ensure free flow of rain water. The officials informed that 80 per cent of the works were complete. The MESCOM officials informed the meeting that monsoon gangs have been kept on alert to assist people regarding any power related problem.

Schools have also been directed to ensure that children do not go anywhere near water filled quarry pits.  The departments concerned will have the power to decide on declaring holidays in case of heavy rains, the DC said.

Kumar, Additional DC, Kanagavalli, ZP CEO, Yogishwar, Assistant Commissioner, Tahsildars and Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers were present.
