Udupi CMC sets up 3 task forces to preempt and tackle monsoon trouble

UDUPI, June 3, 2014: Udupi CMC Commissioner Srikanth Rao has said that three task forces will be set up to address the natural calamities during the monsoon season.  Speaking at the CMC monthly annual meeting, the Commissioner said the team will comprise of an engineer, a health inspector and two CMC officials.

The teams will constantly monitor and travel across Malpe, Manipal and Udupi. The desilting of storm water drains in Bannanje and Kalsanka is in progress.

Council Member Shyamprasad Kudva suggested giving priority to Rajangana near Krishna mutt and Bailakere, as these areas are prone to artificial flood during monsoon.

Another member M R Nayak said even though the other areas receive water everyday, Shiribeedu and Tenkapete wards have not received water for the last two days. He said the CMC should take measures immediately, as worms are found in the tap water and public are in panic.

The Commissioner said that complaint against worm infested water has been received and the sample sent to the laboratory. “There is no foul smell in the water. However, the cause will be known after the investigative report is received.”

MLA Pramod Madhawaraj said that citizens who lost land during Parkala road widening process will be compensated adequetely. Udupi CMC has received Rs 3.60 crore in August.Member M R Nayak raised that the service bus stop is in deplorable condition owing to lack of cleanliness. The airconditionING facility is not being used properly, he alleged and urged to disconnect the airconditioning facility so that the electricity could be saved.
