Mangalore, Mar 13, 2014 : TV journalists from the district, under the aegis of the TV Journalists’ Association, Dakshina Kannada staged a protest in the city on March 12, Wednesday to condemn the arrest of two journalists of TV9 Kannada news channel.
The protestors also strongly condemned State Energy Minister DK Shivakumar for reportedly assaulting the two scribes and filing a false complaint against them in connection with bribery.
Taranath Kapikad, TV journalist, who addressed the protestors said the incident is a mockery of democracy and that the minister had trapped the journalists who would expose him. He also alleged that the pressure from the minister was refraining the police from accepting complaint from the victim journalists. He also urged the Chief Minister to intervene and consider this case seriously.
Pushparaj Shetty, journalist also spoke on the occasion.
The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the State Governor through the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner.
