Students exhorted to launch united fight against drug abuse

Mangalore, June 26, 2014 : Dr Olinda Pereira, Founder Principal of Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work has exhorted the youth  to fight the menace of drug abuse  which was wreaking havoc on  many a young life.

She was speaking at a function held at the Ravindra Kala Bhavan of University College in the city on June 26, Thursday to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Dr Pereira who is also the Founder Director of Vishwas Trust said  the youth should launch a united fight against drug abuse. They should trap drug peddlars and hand them over to the police, she said.

Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Maarla while expressing his concern over the fact that the drugs racket was dangerously spreading its tentacles, said it was the joint responsibility of each and every citizen to stop drug abuse.

Oath against drug abuse was administered to the participant students by Gertrude Veigas, Deputy Director of the Department of Women and Child Welfare.


Vinutha Rai, Nodal Officer, Youth Red Cross, Mangalore University, Prabhakar Sriyan, Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society,  Dr Sathyanarayana Mallipattana, Principal of University College and others were present.

The programme was jointly organized by DK unit of  the Indian Red Cross Society, Junior Red Cross, Youth Red Cross and Youth Red Cross unit.
