Society must fight for good schools and education: Dr. C.N.R. Rao

 Udupi, May 22, 2014 : The education field is getting  corrupted  due to the interference of the bureaucracy and politicians,  regretted Dr. C.N.R. Rao,  renowned  scientist and Bharatha Ratna awardee.

 

He was interacting with the science students and teachers at Prajna Auditorium of Poorna Prajna Institute of Management  at a programme organized by the Udupi Sri Admar Mutt Education Council of Bangalore on May 21, Wednesday.

Continuing, Rao said equality and greater autonomy to educational institutions would contribute to better quality of education, he added. Our society must fight for good schools and  good education, he added,

Referring to China and South Korea which are in the lead in the education and science fields, Prof. Rao said the society there fights for good education and the governments too have earmarked 6 per cent to 8 per cent of their total GDP to the education sector. But our nation reserves only 2 per cent of the total GDP to education. This being the situation, how can one expect quality education?” he said.

“Science is my way of life. I do not know anything but science in the past 55 years. Science teaches me new things every day. It is a field that arouses curiosity. Just tell if there is any other field which  arouses as much curiosity as science,” he said.

Exhorting the students, Dr. C.N.R.Rao said “ I do not use laptops nor mobile or internet. Students must avoid using internet while studying as it reduces their thinking power at times. Moreover, we must see to it that gadgets we use do not rule us.”

Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Admar Mutt, blessed the occasion. Prof. Sadashiva Rao, Principal of Poorna Prajna College, Dr NA Madhyastha and others were present  on the occasion.
