Mangalore, April 10, 2014 : A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, a constituent college of the Nitte University will be  celebrating the Silver Jubilee of its Post Graduate Program on April 12, Saturday 10 am  at the  K.S Hegde Auditorium, Derlakatte.

 Dr. R.K Bali, Padmashree awardee and former President of the Dental Council of India shall be the chief guest of the occasion.

Prof. N.R Shetty,Director Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology and former Vice Chancellor of the Bangalore University, Dr.  M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor of  Nitte University  and Dr.  Ramananda Shetty, Vice Chancellor of the University will be the guests of honour.  Dr. N. Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University  will preside over the function.

 On the occasion, the A.B Shetty Post Graduate Forum would be felicitating Dr. Vinay Hegde for his unstinting support and encouragement over the years in establishing a Post Graduate institution par excellence.

 In a great gesture the three stalwarts of the Institution who have been a part of institution right from its genesis until now namely Founder Dean Prof. N. Sridhar Shetty, Principal Prof.(Dr) Rajendra Prasad & Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) U.S Krishna Nayak will be felicitated and honored along with the other Senior Staff members who have been pivotal to the success of the Post Graduate Program.

 Endowment Lecture: In connection with the Silver Jubilee an Endowment Lecture in the name of Dr. N Vinay Hegde  is being instituted by the A.B.S.M.I.D.S Post Graduate forum.

 The first Endowment Lecture will be delivered by Prof. (Dr.) N.R Shetty, Director Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology and former Vice Chancellor of the Bangalore University on “Dental Education, Manpower, Employment & Research along with present status of Higher Education ” The programme will be held at 12 Noon on April 12 at KS Hegde Auditorium, Medical Sciences Complex, Derlakatte.
 

About the Institute :  Established on 31st May, 1985 as the first professional institution of the Nitte Education Trust by the late Justice K.S Hegde, the institution has been a temple of learning right since its humble beginnings and has grown by leaps and bounds over the years to become a premier institute as it is today, having unparalleled name and fame in the country under the able leadership of late Justice KS Hegde’s son, the dynamic Dr. N. Vinay Hegde the President of the Nitte Education Trust and presently the Chancellor of the Nitte University.

 Soon after its recognition for the BDS degree affiliated to Mangalore University, the Post Graduate courses started in 1989 and there has been no looking back since. That the institute boasts of the largest Post Graduate intake in the country (49 per year in 8 different specialities) is only symbolic of the fact that the institute is an epitome of excellence. Over 1072 Post Graduates have graduated from this institution and are held in high esteem by the dental fraternity, with several of them going on to Head various institutions and departments across the country and abroad.

The institution was associated with the Mangalore University till 1996 after which it was affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The year 2008 was a landmark year which saw the birth of the NITTE University with The A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences being the first college under the same.  The Nitte University is today proudly recognized as an “A” Grade University both by MHRD and NAAC.

 With excellence as its motto and always in pursuit of greater heights the graduates of the institution are trained in the most modern techniques using state of the art equipment. Social service is something that the institution prides itself upon, offering free dental care to all. With 15 Rural Satellite Centers spread across the state and neighboring Kerala the institution has gone a step further by providing dental care at the doorstep and that too free of cost.
