Mangaluru, Jan 13, 2019: Chatrapathi Shivaji was a man of secular ideals and had not endorsed any particular faith or entertained any parochial ideology. He cared for the welfare of all people and he cannot be appropriated as the mascot for any ideology or belief, said Ranjith Singh Balasaheb Chauhan, a 13th generation descendent of the legendary Maratha warrior.
He was speaking on the topic ‘Chatrapathi Shivaji – A Secular Leader’ organized by Puttur Block Congress Committee and Congress Social Media Cell at the Congress Office, Puttur on Saturday, 12th January.
Shivaji practiced secular values, which are the soul of our country. His royal court as well as his army comprised of people from all walks of life including backward people, Dalits and Muslims. War and fighting is a credo of the Kshatriya people. In his wars, Shivaji fought only against his enemies and not because they belonged to any particular classification of people. He even executed his own relatives for treason. He killed Afsal Khan only due to enmity and not because of his religion. Even 500 years back he has conceived ideas of democracy and swarajya, he said.
Former MLAs Vinay Kumar Sorake and Shakunthala Shetty presided over the meeting.
