Sand mafia throws dust at police eyes before fleeing

Kasargod, June 30, 2014: A police team led by Probationary ASP Dr Himendranath had to suffer a setback at the hands of sand mafia men who gave the cops who were chasing their vehicle, a slip in a true cinematic style on June 29, Sunday at Mukrampare.

Sand mafia Acting on a tip off that sand was being transported unauthorisedly, the police were alert at the Perla checkpost.

They first saw an escort car followed by a tipper loaded with sand. The tipper however failed to stop when signalled and police gave it a chase. Just when the police were about to overtake the tipper, those in the vehicle all of a sudden unloaded the sand virtually on the police jeep and the road.

The police opened fire but in vain as the men fled in the vehicle in different directions.

It is worth mentioning here that sand is being unabatedly transported from Karnataka to Kerala in trucks during night time.
