Mangalore, April 3, 2013: The farming community of the district has expressed its ire over the MESCOM for its ‘profit oriented’ policies and has decided to lay siege to the MESCOM MD’s office on April 8.
Informing this to reporters in Mangalore, Vijaykumar Hegde, State Vice President of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha said the MESCOM should make arrangements to supply power to DK and Udupi district from Jog instead of relying on UPCL.
He further said the undivided DK district was facing problems galore due to the load shedding that has put farmers as well as the general public in great trouble. He said the district which never faced grave power problems in the past, began to feel the heat ever since the UPCL came up and the power from Jog was diverted to Hassan and Bangalore. The policies of MESCOM has made the people of the district suffer, he further added.
Hegde was also highly critical of the KERC for increasing electricity tariff frequently and said it was aimed at nothing but appeasing the power generating and supplying companies.
He further alleged that the MESCOM officials, at the behest of the MESCOM chief were harassing the farmers and were snatching their lands for laying of electricity poles and such other things.
