Udupi, Dec 31, 2013 : The row over Palanquin Procession that had rocked during the Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat, seems to have hit even the seers of the Udupi Mutt.
If the tradition of taking the Nudisiri Chairman in a Palanquin carried by people was dropped this time owing to opposition from various corners, in another latest development, Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt of Udupi too has said he would not sit on a palanquin carried by people during the ensuing Paryaya
The seer has said instead he would be sitting on a Palanquin carried in a vehicle. The Paryaya of Udupi is to be held on January 18 and the tradition has it that the heads of the Ashta Mutts participate in procession by sitting in Palanquins carried by people of the Mogaveera community.
The Pejawar Swamiji has said even the seers of the Admar and the Kaniyoor Mutts have expressed solidarity with him in his decision and have promised not to sit in palanquins carried by people.
