One-way rule hopes to end traffic snarls at busy Balmatta Junction

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, July 01, 2014:  The new traffic rule brought into effect in the city on June 30, Monday barring vehicles from Balmatta towards Bendorewell Junction with the main view to put an end to traffic snarls at Balmatta,  left the motorists confused to some extent on Monday.

Under the new rule  vehicular movement from Balmatta Junction to Bendorewell Junction, from Horticulture Junction to Balmatta Junction via SCS Hospital and from Bendorewell Junction to Horticulture Junction  has been restricted. The Mangalore City Traffic Police has  made the triangular section of two-way roads going towards St Agnes from Balmatta Circle and from Bendorewell Circle to Canara Bank Office one-way.

On Monday, the traffic policemen on duty had a  tough time in regulating the traffic as many motorists were unaware of the new one-way rule on three main roads aimed at easing traffic congestion.

Many people were waiting for the buses as usual   near the Balmatta Circle and Bendorewell Circle and were informed by the police about the changed rules.

Uday Naik, ACP (Traffic) while admitting that there would be some confusion initially, hoped everything would be fine  in the next few days.

Meanwhile,  there is information that the police have plans to  convert many narrow roads in the city into one-way.
