Officials seize 1855 litres of unauthorised kerosene from shed at Hoigebazar

Mangalore, Jun 6, 2013: Nearly 1855 litres of blue kerosene oil meant for distribution through PDS was  seized  during a raid on a shed at Hoigebazar by a team of officials of  the Food and Civil Supplies Department and Pandeshwar police, on June 6, Thursday.

However, the owner of the shed  Damodar Karkera is said to be absconding. The shed was located on Bhagath Singh Road at Hoigebazar. It is said the kerosene was meant to be sold to boat owners who resided nearby, during  monsoon. The kerosene were stocked in nearly 356 barrels. The raiding team has also seized 90 litres of mixed diesel fuel.

Sharanabasappa, Deputy Director of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies led the raiding team which also comprised of Suresh Kumar, Assistant Director of the Department, Siddappa, Pandeshwar SI and other staff.

Incidentally, the shed was raided on the same date last year by the authorities. Locals say despite the raid, illegal business continued fearlessly.


Complaints of illegal stocking of fuel: Officials raid godown at Hoigebazar

Mangalore, June 6, 2013: Officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department raided a godown at Hoigebazar  on June 5, Wednesday,following complaints that diesel and kerosene oil was illegally stocked there. The godown was later sealed by the authorities as the owner was not present on the occasion.

Department officials have said they are not yet aware if the fuel was stocked authorisedly or unauthorisedly in the godown.The truth may be out after the godown owner arrives.

The officials also stated that the godown would be opened on June 6 Thursday in the presence of the  godown owner. The godown is owned by one Damodar Karkera and a few months ago illegally stocked fuel was seized from here.
