Nepal rationalist body felicitates Prof. Narendra Nayak

Mangaluru, Oct 16, 2023: Renowned Mangaluru-based rationalist and humanist Prof. Narendra Nayak has been honoured with international recognition in the Himalayan country of Nepal. He was honoured by the Bansha-Ratna Memorial Trust during an award ceremony, the Bansha-Ratna Manavatavaadi Samman Samaroh 2023, which took place on October 7 in Kathmandu.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prof. Nayak, who returned to Mangalore from Kathmandu on Friday, said the honour was conferred for his lifetime work in propagating humanism. During his extended stay in Nepal, he attended many other public gatherings and addressed various groups of rationalists, humanists, intellectuals, activists and students.

Prof. Nayak founded the Dakshina Kannada Rationalist Association in 1976 and is currently the president of the Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIRA). He tours the country, conducting workshops to promote scientific temper and debunk godmen and frauds. He has conducted over 2000 such demonstrations in India, including some in Australia, Greece, England, Norway, Denmark, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. He also founded an NGO called Aid Without Religion in July 2011, which provides financial assistance to children and disadvantaged people.

For his activism in these fields, he has earlier received several honours, such as the “Distinguished Service to Humanism Award" by the International Humanist and Ethical Union in 2011; the "Lawrence Pinto Human Rights Award" from the Friends of Lawry in 2015; the "Academy Honorary Award" of Karnataka Balavikas Academy, Directorate of Women, Child Development Department, Government of Karnataka in 2017; Charvaka award by Brights society in November 2022 and Ki Ram Nagaraj award in August 2023.
