Moral policing in Ujire: Group mobs young pair of same community

Belthangady, July 17, 2014:  In a shocking case of moral policing reported from Ujire, a  young pair was accosted by a group of  people who wanted to know their whereabouts, while the former were waiting  for a bus, on July 16, Wednesday. It later came to light that the two were lovers, belonged to the same community and that their families had fixed their marriage.

If the youth around 21 years of age hailed from Moodigere and owned a mobile shop there, the 19 year old girl from Karkala was his relative and a BBM student  who had come to a college in Ujire for her sister’s admission.

It is learnt, the group wanted to know why they had come together. The Belthangady Police who rushed to the spot  ensured that the young pair was not attacked.

Cases have been registered against the accused. Latest reports say three persons have been arrested but there is no confirmation as to yet.
