Minister Rai directs officials to issue door numbers to houses of poor on govt lands

 Mangalore, Feb 7, 2014 : State Minister for Forest and Ecology and District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai   has directed the officials to issue door numbers to the poor who have constructed houses on government lands and are residing there.

Presiding over the Tri-Monthly KDP review meeting at the ZP meeting Hall on February 6, Thursday, the Minister  said so in response to the appeal made by Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo  who complained that the poor who do not have door numbers  are  deprived of government facilities.

ZP President Koragappa Naik said the excuse given by officials that  issuing of door numbers to poor residing in houses constructed on government lands would create legal hurdles is wrong as the door number is issued only to avail government facilities.

The Minister also informed that  the state government has released a sum of Rs one crore to distribute as compensation to areca growers affected by Kole disease of the crops He also said that an appeal had been made to release Rs 10 crore for ht purpose.

District Horticultural Deputy Director said a total of 46788 applications had been received for compensation and 36441 applications have been cleared and a compensation of Rs 19.95 crores distributed. He said an additional Rs 10 crore grant is required to clear all the applications..

JR Lobo also deplored the inaction of the authorities in extending the runway of the Mangalore International Airport and added any further delay may make the airport lose its international tag. He also pointed out that the neighbouring Kerala has already begin the works on the Kannur International airport which will be the fourth International Airport in the state.

Responding to the grievances, Assistant Commissioner Dr Prashanth said a proposal has been sent to the government referring to the Airport Director’s letter seeking grant for runway expansion.

An officer of the  State Water Supply and Underground Drainage Board said the new vented dam works of Tumbay was complete by 50 per cent and that the works may be complete by July end.

Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, ZP Vice President Rithesh Shetty, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni, SP Shanthanu Sinha and other officials were present.
