Mangalore, May 27, 2014: BJP along with a wide cross section of  different organisations celebrated throughout Dakshina Kannada district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s  taking oath of office as the 15th Prime Minister of the country on May 26, Monday evening.  There was a festive rejoicing and great expectation from all levels of civil society and youth in particular.

The district BJP office in Kodialbail Mangalore was the main hub of activity and jubilations; all arrangements were in place to project the live broadcast of the swearing in-ceremony on a large LED screen. A decorated tea stall  — ‘NaMo Tea stall’ distributed tea free of cost, in honour of Modiji. By 6 pm a huge crowd was present and the joy was visible and the decibel level high.

Crowds of people were outside the BJP office even early in afternoon.  The celebrations took on a gala tone by 4 pm when NaMo tea stall started distributing tea plus khara with ‘Jilebi’.  Senior leaders of the BJP,  District President Pratap Simha Nayak,  MLCs Capt Ganesh Karnik, Monappa Bhandary, former speaker Yogish Bhat and many other well known faces and citizens were in celebration mode.

 Dist. BJP President Pratap Simha Nayak said,  there is a double joy for the people from many walks of life in this industrious district since  Narendra Modi who is looked upon as an ordinary tea seller has risen to the great heights as the Prime Minister  of India, one of the biggest democracies in the world. Former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda hailing from common roots being included in the Union Cabinet is a great source of jubilation for all in the district. These great signs are an indication of the true values of the ordinary Indian civil society.

Nayak added. “The BJP’s manifesto had promised to create an Agriculture of special zone and a separate railway division for Mangalore . Every effort to implement the promises through MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Sadananda Gowda, is on” he said.

At 6 pm sharp, as Narenda Modiji  took the oath, administered by President Mukherjee , people’s voices erupted in slogans and song,  bursting crackers at PVS Circle and outside BJP office Kodialbail. Sources estimated that crackers worth above Rs 45,000 were burst on the occasion.  This was followed by ‘Rastra Devobhava’, a special dance programme.

Yuva Sene Celebrations:  The Yekkur, Hindu Yuva Sene,  distributed  complimentary tea to people from morning of May 26 - a model rural tea stall was put up.   The number  of  those present was about  2,000.  Tea and sweets were distributed with  Shubhakara Shetty and Srinivas Yekkur  in the fore frount. The Sene also distributed  meals to around 500 deserving persons. 

Modi Abhimani Balaga : Traders from Gujarat settled in Mangalore historically since many years,  formed  Modi Abhimani Balaga,  and raised funds to distribute free meals, at Jalarama temple in Bunder, to mark the great occasion.

The yeoman body of local Gujarati’s ’Gujarati Mahajan Association’  President Rameshbahi Patel said,  “ Arrangement to distribute meals for 1,500 persons are made by our association,  the response was above our expectations. Typical South Indian meals with poori, gasi, rice, sambar and payasam were served.


All the traders from Gujarat settled in Mangalore donated  towards this cause generously in honour of Narenrabhai our new PM from Gujarat.We are happy that our leader has become the Prime Minister of the country,” he added. Central Market Merchants Association members distributed fruits to the patients at Wenlock Hospital to mark  Modiji’s becoming  PM of India.  On May 26, artist Punik Shetty and team contributed to the spirit with a meaningful sand sculpture of  new Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at Tannirbavi beach in Mangalore.
