Mangalore, Jan 13, 2014: The DK District level Karavali Utsav exhibition was inaugurated at the Karavali Utsav exhbibition grounds near Mangala Stadium on January 12, Sunday by District in=charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai.

In his inaugural address, Rai said  all arrangements have been made to make Karavali Utsav, as a festival of the common man  instead of merely being a Government festival. He also stated that  the Utsav aims to rekindle the glory of the coastal district by bringing alive its unique culture, tradition art as well as cultural   splendour.

The  Karavali Utsav cultural events were inaugurated by  writer and thinker Fr Prashanth Madta. Speaking on the occasion, Fr Madta spoke about the unique culture of the region. He said learning a language is as good as learning a culture and added the greatness of Mangalore lies in the fact that it has different names in nine languages.

MLA Moidin Bava, presided over the function. AB Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner, Ajith Kumar Hegde, MCC Commissioner, Dr Prashanth, Assistant Commissioner, Mohan Rao, Tahsildar, Dayanand K , Additional DC, JR Lobo, MLA,  Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President and others were present.

Guttuda Illu : The entrance of the Karavali Utsav exhibition is made in the shape of a Guttu House. A  cock is seen tied at the main entrance. The house   has also a distinctively carved door.

The exhibition showcases as many as 32 pavilion stalls, 40 small stalls, 10 special outlets displaying a variety of handlooms, household and other  products. There is also a food section  offering tongue tickling dishes and snacks. The Utsav also has an amusement  show where the specialty this time is Chand  Show, Octopus, Columbus and Dragon train.
