Mangalore, June 27, 2014:   Just a day after four persons from Kasargod were arrested at the Mangalore International Airport for possessing foreign currency, two more persons  from Kasargod were apprehended on June 26, Thursday on similar charges.

foreignThe arrested are Mohammad Ali Abdulla Rahiman from Pallikere, Periya in Kasargod  and Abdulla Kundor. If the former had 18000 Dirhams worth Rs 2.95 lakhs, the latter had  19000 Saudi Rials worth Rs 3.05 lakhs.

Both were to leave for Sharjah by Jet Airways Flight and Air India Express flight respectively.
The value of currency notes seized in  both the cases has been estimated at Rs 18.15 lakhs. The seized foreign currency included 18,000 dirhams, 19,000 Saudi rials, 10,000 US dollars, 1,950 Oman rials and 1,450 dinars.

It is learnt, the foreign currency were being taken to pay for the gold smuggled into the nation.

The arrests were made by a team led by Airport Customs Assistant Commissioner Praveen Vinod. Others in the team were Superintendents, Markus Pereira, R S Venkatram, R G Gaonkar and  Sriram Nelli
