MLC Ivan D;Souza felicitated and NSUI issues raised

Mangalore, July 14, 2014: On relevant issues pertaining to students community, newly nominated MLC Ivan D’Souza  speaking after receiving felicitation at a programme organised by the National Students Union of India (NSUI)  on July 13 said  when the  student organisations raise genuine problems of the student community, the government and society will support them.

 

 

 The MLC stated,  as per the directions of the Supreme Court, students’ grievance cell should be constituted in every university. There should be interlinked matrix in courses so that arts and commerce students can also study science . Responding,  Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande has promised on appointing Student Welfare Officers to the universities.

“I do not support political parties entering college campuses, but students should have awareness about the developments in society. Student organisations should be committed to society and they should work in uniting, uplifting people,” D’Souza said. He urged to start a NSUI unit in every college in the district  before his 100 days in office.

District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai stressed on the importance of college education which enables people to know their rights and duties.  Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo was of the opinion  NSUI is weak in these days. The organisation has failed because it is not based on mass participation. NSUI youth wing should strengthen the party at the booth-level.

District Congress in-Charge President Kodichal Ibrahim, Women Congress President Mamatha Gatti, Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Corporator Praveenchandra Alva, NSUI District President Ashith G Pereira, St Aloysius College Principal Fr Swebert D’Silva and others were present.
